<h4 class="label">Temple Announcement</h4>
<p>On October 1, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Fairbanks Alaska Temple at the October 2023 General Conference. It will be the second temple in Alaska after the <a href="/anchorage-alaska-temple/" onmouseover="showTip('anchorage-alaska-temple')" onmouseout="unTip()">Anchorage Alaska Temple</a>. The east-central city of Fairbanks has the second-largest population in the state. At the time of the announcement, Alaska was home to approximately 35,000 Latter-day Saints across more than 80 congregations. In January, the First Presidency of the Church had announced that the <a href="/anchorage-alaska-temple/" onmouseover="showTip('anchorage-alaska-temple')" onmouseout="unTip()">Anchorage Alaska Temple</a> would be reconstructed beginning in early 2024. A significantly larger temple would be built on the same property where the adjacent meetinghouse stood. The existing temple would stay open during construction.¹</p>

<p>The Fairbanks Alaska Temple will be the second temple built in Alaska, following the <a href="/anchorage-alaska-temple/" onmouseover="showTip('anchorage-alaska-temple')" onmouseout="unTip()">Anchorage Alaska Temple</a> (1999).</p>
